YONL is a post-metal band from France. Six musicians play two drumsets and two guitars. All of their albums except for their first one “Nord” are instrumental. “Nord” is oriented towards the subgenre Sludge and includes noticeable psychedelic influences. It spreads a very depressive atmosphere, which has firmly developed until their album “Ausserwelt”.
The musical style shows noticeable references to Doom Metal since the atmosphere in general appears darker. The post-rock feeling still remains. Lengthy songs, which often establish over minutes, are crucial for Years Of No Light. The songs start slowly, dull and raise little by little until the entire spectrum of all all six musicians is shown. Sophisticated structures and depths often define these non vocal songs.
If you want to listen to epic, atmospheric and still gloomy as well as melancholious music, I really recommend these six guys from France.
