Hello fellow beauty lovers.

Exactly one week ago I told you about the partially extreme steps in preparations for a child beauty pageant. Parents are prepared to do the craziest things to ensure the winning of their little daughter. Fake lashes, makeup and silicone breasts to strap on lead to the already growing hyper-sexualisation of the minor contestants. The little girls are trained to view the world and themselves in a vain way. They brush on fake smiles like no one’s business and can walk like a grown woman. The consequences of this upbringing are severe, not only in regard to the children’s body image and confidence.

In the case of JonBenet Ramsey her fame in the beauty world caused her death.

Shortly after Christmas in 1996 the 6-and-a-half year old beauty queen was found dead the basement of her family’s house. In her short life-span she won more than two dozens of titles and trophies in her years as a beauty contestant. In an interview with ABC her father stated that he deeply regretted her participation in any of those competitions. He told ABC about an incident during a Christmas parade when little JonBenet alias Little Miss Sunshine was approached by a mysterious man whilst she was waving from her seat in the parade. The vulnerability in the eyes of the public is something no child has to endure. Both John Ramsey and his wife were main suspects in the murder case of their daughter. They were cleared after years of accusations but tragically Patsy Ramsey died a couple of years before she was cleared as a suspect. The tragedy of Colorado showed the world how dangerous it can be to figuratively present their children on a silver plate to the public.

Up until today it is still unclear who killed JonBenet Ramsey.

Yours truly,

Lana Hoang
