If there’s a designer who knows exactly how to draw the attention to oneself, it has to be Jorge Duque. He was the winner from the reality show “Project Runway” for Latin-America and that’s how the fashion world still remembers him, I bet. Born in Bogotá, Columbia, he wasn’t just famous on TV. Even though the show gave him the fame he has now in Columbia and even though divas like Jennifer Lopez are wearing his designs, he’s always been true to the Haute Couture subtlety.

He manages to express his art, his literature and his story in his collections in a self-taught way. Jorge presents the women with an emphasis on femininity, where the waist is one of the main aspects. The delicate cloths are silky and shimmering, they seem to be floating along the body like spring water. A woman that is wearing his summer collection 2014, looks tough and gallant, she almost looks spherical. There’s never too much skin in play, however the silhouette already is tempting. It’s this detail and the strong contrast that stretches from casual to golden swank that baffles me.

What I really love about Jorge Duque though, is his courage to revive the shoulder pad for women, his courage to design tomboyish minimal garments and his unique outfits like the crème-colored dress with a golden spencer. By the way, the blue business suit is not a suit. It’s actually a jumpsuit. What a crazy combination!

Will Jorge Duque manage to baffle us anew on the 2nd of April 2014 with his collection for the coming fall and winter 2014/15?
