magnapinna

The deep sea has got some scary, scary surprises hidden up its sleeve. Creatures that are way too abnormal for the daylight fight for the sovereignty of the deep: viperfish, snaketooth fish, anglerfish and many more live in these dark depths. But today we’re going to talk about one of these beings who looks so ludicrous that it’s almost bloodcurdling: the Magnapinna.

They look like ghouls from the sea: bizarre, long, skinny and colourless. They look for nourishment, and they find it with their over-dimensional fins. They live in a world without light, and nobody has everybody seen one of them in its natural habitat.

The moon is located a hefty 384,400km from Earth, and yet we know more about this rocky airless orb floating in space than we know about the deep-sea. Impressive, isn’t it?
