Hello fellow beauty lovers.

I really hope you had an amazing start into the new week. Did you, by any chance, get to see my latest Manicure Monday? I still have to pause a second and admire the feather that looks so complicated but was in fact pretty simple.

However, that should not concern you in the slightest today. I showed you a couple of cleansers last week in combination with the different skin types. Today I would love to provide you with a general overview about the 5 basic steps of skin care. A lot of people think that 3 would suffice but I am of the opinion that it should not be any less than 5.

Those 5 steps are the foundation for every skin care routine and guarantee a better looking skin and prevent wrinkles as well as any flaws of the skin.

Those five steps include those products:

1. Cleanser
2. Peeling
3. Toner
4. Moisturizer
5.  Sun Protection

The details as to how and which cleansers work for which skin type can be read in my previous Tip Tuesday.

Why the peeling has to be an essential in your routine has one simple reason: skin cells move in a cycle of 28 days from the dermis up to the epidermis to die off basically. They need 28 days to go around and, well, die on our face. Those dead skin cells can clog up your pores causing all kinds of damages and problems like blackheads or pimples. That is why I personally recommend using a Peeling once a week minimum to get rid of all those dead skin cells.

The Toner used to have one task: balance out our skin. The pH-level of our skin can be disrupted by all the cleansing and peeling and the toner used to help us with this kind of stuff. Today however, there are loads and loads of benefits for using a toner. They get rid of the rest of our makeup or even the cleanser itself and kind of prepare our skin for the next step: Moisturizing.

After having thoroughly scrubbed the dirt off our faces we have to nourish our skin. And the type of moisturizer extremely varies from skin type to skin type. The consistency and ingredients can be shuffled up and because this topic is that complex and frankly too interesting to squeeze into one paragraph I am going to dedicate a whole article to this topic altogether. Today’s lesson will only be the following: You just need to know that the moisturizer can change up due to season changes and it can range from using fluids to using gel-like textures.

The last step in our skincare routine may be as crucial as the other ones. A lot of people tend to neglect this step. But once you step out of your homes you’re endangered by the UV radiation by the sun. Most people think that if the sun is not visible at all it’s less dangerous. Let me tell you this, the sun can still get you, even through those thick clouds. You won’t see the aftermath in a couple of years but by the end of your 20’s you’ll see premature wrinkles or other skin problems and why should we even bother with them if we can prevent this by putting on SPF?

Well, that’s about it for today. I hope you guys got a nice little overview and could benefit from my “5 basic skincare steps” article. Don’t forget to tune in next week to see the next instalment of my Skincare Series!

Yours truly,
Lana
