To be honest with you, I never really liked Razer. They’re keen to innovate the gaming equipment market and I keep praising them for doing so, but I never really grew to like their designs. And that just changed. In my blog post from March, I already told you about the US release. Now it’s finally available in Germany and I didn’t hesitate to get one!

The BlackWidow Ultimate 2014  is completely matte and rubberized which makes it a subtle eye catcher. Moreover, the rubberized surface provides excellent look and feel. The keyboard is powered by a really thick nylon coated USB cable – with gold-plated connectors of course. However, there are more aspects that give you the premium product feel. Just like any decent mechanical keyboard, the BlackWidow Ultimate 2014 has a large metal plate in it. Firstly, this plate makes sure it weighs a ton and it especially gives the keyboard an enourmous durability. So the next time you lose against someone at a tourney, you can at least kill that person with your keyboard! Moreover every single key has its very own little LED, which is why the keyboard is evenly luminated. You can dim or turn off the LEDs in a fluent transition. On the right side of the keyboard, you even have a connector for a USB device and your headset! I use the USB slot for mit Nano-Bluetooth stick.

However, that’s by far not it. Razer offers free software with the keyboard and you can use it to remap every single key on your keyboard with a new command. Razer even added 5 macro keys to the keyboard! With the “FN” key and the Gaming Mode, I can give my keys up to three different commands. With just a single click, my keyboard comes my EVE-Online cockpit, which opens spreadsheets with market prices, an important live-info website, or automatically fires all of my cannons!

But now, let’s get to the important part: Razer’s custom Cherry MX Green Switches! In comparison to my SteelSeries 6Gv” with Cherry MX Black Switches, my previous keyboard, this little masterpiece features a tactile center of pressure, so I know exactly when a key is triggered and I don’t have to fully press it down. This increases the speed at which I am typing and my reaction time when I am playing games. However, the MX Green Switches are pretty loud. Honestly, it kind of sounds like a typewriter. J

In terms of gaming, the BlackWidow Ultimate 2014 has now become my all-time favorite. The keys are triggered using very low force and I get a tactile and an audible feedback when it’s triggered. Basically, I would say that Razers Cherry MX Switches are MX Blues which were optimized for gaming – and I love ‘em!

So the ones of you who are looking for a premium keyboard and are willing to pay more than 120€, are guaranteed to spend their money right on the Razer BlackWidow Ultimate 2014! What would Lana, my colleague working in our beauty department, say now? Well, the Black Widow is a clear HOT!
