A week ago I told you about the beauty secret that comes out of our very own faucet. But today we’ll go back to our topic “Asian beauty ideals” for the last time. You surely know the saying: “The most beautiful curve on a woman’s body is her smile.” Well, it seems as if the women in South Korea know that saying all too well. The AONE clinic offers the so called “Smile Lipt” surgeries to all the women, who want to westernize their features. This, however, is an operation, that is highly controversial, even in South Korea.
According to the Daily Mail, parts of the muscles that support the jaw are cut during the operation. Sounds like something the Joker from Batman would fancy, doesn’t it?
This new method to westernize Asian features is shockingly similar to a torture technique originating in the Scottish city Glasgow. The so called “Glasgow-Smile”, also known as Chelsea Grin or Chelsea Smile, describes a mutilation of the mouth to force the victims to hush. In doing so, the offender cuts the corners of the victim’s mouth then beats him or her until the muscles in the face contract, causing the cuts to extend up to the victim’s ears. This leaves a scar in the shape of creepy, broad smile.
This picture shows a young woman, who allegedly has undergone the surgery to achieve the creepy perma-smile.
