The designer Sophie Theallet who clothed Michelle Obama on multiple occasions the last eight years, wrote an open letter to fellow designers not to design the clothing for Melania Trump, due to the racist and sexist views of Melanias husband and president elect Donald Trump.
Tommy Hilfiger was one of the first major fashion designers to comment positively on possibly working with the new first lady, saying that Melania Trump is a very beautiful woman and every fashion designer should be glad to work with a person like that. The opening ceremony and Kenzo-Designer Humberto Leon sees a deep connection between fashion and politics. He shared Theallets open letter on his private facebook page, supporting Theallets viewpoint. It is not surprising that designers who support immigration and LBGT rights, are reluctant in clothing Melania Trump.
If Donald Trump would had not built his presidential campaign on hate rants, Melania wouldn´t have any problems in finding an american designer to clothe her during Donald´s presidency. Michelle Obama is in big support of up and coming fashion designers, during her time as first lady she had added to the fame of many young designers like ( Jason Wu, Joseph Altuzarra and Naeem Khan ), she undoubtedly will be a huge loss for the american fashion industry.
