Eco-friendly skin care, made of ingredients known to be less harmful to humans and the environment, enjoys growing popularity. But with the popularity comes the also rapidly growing number of manufacturers that try to scheme their way into the organic community under false pretense. That’s why as a consumer you have to be aware of what you purchase. There are some ways to see through a scheme in order to start “greening” up your life a bit.

Your first glance should be towards the list of ingredients on every product you’re planning on purchasing. Keep in mind: Less is more. The shorter the list you see, the lower the possibility that synthetic chemicals have sneaked their way into the product. Keep an eye open for often-used chemicals like sodium laureth sulfate, diethanolamin, parabens and quaterium 15 because you wouldn’t want those on your skin.

Your second glance should be dedicated to the logo of the product. If you spot a  ACO (Australian Certified Organic) seal or a USDA logo (US Department of Agriculture) you’re safe. Those are independent certification bodies that award seals of quality to products that deserve them.

When it comes to fragrance, things get a little bit more complicated. Unfortunately a lot of companies make use of so-called loopholes to make ends meet. It is set that you are not obliged to reveal what was used to create the fragrance. That’s why I’d advise you sticking to the brands you know and trust.
