Whenever I think of pocket watches, my mind immediately flashes back to delicately made lockets in gold or silver, with a distinctive style that belongs in the past. However, this doesn’t mean that pocket watches are worn solely by elderly people, fans of retro, or people who happen to be both. French label Fob Paris have completely re-invented the pocket watch. Three great minds have made it their aim to revamp watches into modern and fashionable accessories. And oh, how they have succeeded! Their unisex creations are characterized by their massive, industrial-looking flair, which reminds me of the Leipziger Bauhaus style. All their pieces have the flip-to-close lid typical of a pocket watch. They have a hole on one side that reminds me of a pinhole camera.

But the hole doesn’t exist solely for a cosmetic purpose. It also gives me a glimpse into the clockwork mechanism sandwiched deep within the watch. As for the designs, they’re very minimal yet avant-garde – all thanks to the designers’ focus on making pocket watches into fashionable accessories, whilst breaking old conventions that are still associated with pocket watches. The watches were all linked to bracelets, bands, and even necklaces, to give them that certain individual edge.

I can picture them going well with a minimalistic outfit or a more edgy looking ensemble. The latter would certainly enhance the masculinity of the pieces! So, if you’re in the market for a very unusual watch that has a cool and innovative design, I’m certain you’ll be very pleased with the Fob watches.
