Death of a Superhero” is a German movie that was shot in English in Scotland, and based on the book “Superhero”.

Donald is an ordinary teenager. He smokes occasionally, goes to parties occasionally and has a great talent for painting. But underneath it all, Donald really is rather different from all of us – Donald has cancer. He is furious about his future, and begins rebelling against it, developing a death wish such that he might regain control over the dangerous situation. His parents, who are depressed about the situation, send him to a psychologist who specializes in death: Dr. Adrian King. Donald begins to build a friendship with him, and he realizes that there are still many things he’d like to experience before he dies … especially love.

“Death of a Superhero” is a wonderful movie. It’s not your typical sad movie about a cancer patient, but about a teenager who flees into another world, as depicted in cartoon sequences. This alone makes the movie unique. The relationship between his escape and reality embodies his love of art. “Death of a Superhero” is a movie about growing up quickly and experiencing a painful awakening – it’s beautiful and grey, just like Scotland.
