Last time, I reported on the Russian combat sport Sambo. Now, I’m going to tell you more about another Russian combat sport, a more modern one called Systema. As opposed to the weaponless Sambo, Systema utilises knives and improvised hand-to-hand weapons such as folding spades. Also, firearms can be used, albeit in rather unusual combat scenarios.

Systema is reserved for special units as the man learns how to defend himself with only his hands. Grips and punches are what they train to do. This way, they can even shatter bones or ribs, splitting the hemals so that the enemy can be knocked out precisely and effectively.

This is why Systema is not taught in the official civil field, but rather in the military. What a man has learnt can never be forgotten! So, if you know anybody who might have learnt Systema, it’s best not to make him angry!
