Have you ever wondered where the myths about multi-headed dragons and other dangerous beasts with more than just one head come from? Well, this question actually occupies my mind all the time. Hey, one thing is for sure. The following phenomenon probably led to many of these myths: Reptiles with two heads, which can act independently!

If such a snake hatches in the zoo or a pet shop, the exemplar is brought to a laboratory in most cases in order to examine it and find out how the two heads interact. Furthermore, scientists want to find out in which direction the snake moves and which head consumes the food. Well, this amount of effort is justified. The two heads often are at odds with each other.

In order to keep the little monster alive, scientists have to make sure that the heads are fed at the same time. Additionally, they have to swallow simultaneously, just to stop the hydra from being torn apart. Yes, this little hydra indeed has a complicated life, but hey. It does look creepy at least.
