Erdem has a British mother and a Turkish father, he was born in Canada and he lives in London, all in all: he is literally an international designer. After his education in the Royal College of Art in London he started working with Diane von Fürstenberg in New York. In 2005, he won the Fashion Fringe Award with his own label.
This year, he’s going to present his new collection fall/winter 2014/15 on the current Rio Fashion Week. His designs are as international and special as his background. Especially the opener designs remind to the style of Iris van Herpen, an extravagant Couture designer.
He works with a lot of ornamental cut-outs and flouncy elements. In gold, they particularly make one think of Queen Elizabeth I. Erdem combines so many different styles in his collection that it’s pretty hard to describe him generally as a designer. Sometimes he decorates a lot and sometimes he works solely with distinctive lines. Erdem seems to be inspired by his background, his designs are obviously influenced by various other artists from all over the world, so that his collection is very varied and makes his fans fall in love with his fashion all over again.
