“Who wants flowers if they’re dead? No one.”

Salinger’s “The catcher of the rye” is one of those books which you should have read before. It perfectly reflects the mind of the adult man who is sick of almost everything and doesn’t know where to go and what to do with his life. There are several myths about this novel. People say that he quoted suicide victims and also the assassin John Warnock Hinckley, Jr. who attacked Ronald Reagan, the president of the United Stated in 1981. He said that his doings were another chapter in his book. But what is meant by this?

1951, shortly before Christmas. Holden Caulfield is the narrator of this book. He has been suspended due to bad grades and dropped out of school completely. At the same time he needs a break of all his fake and superficial schoolmates anyways. He was afraid of his family’s reaction and does not return home, spending three days in Manhattan – in search of affection and the truth, going up against all the hypocritical and fake people.

That does not sound promising, but trust me, if you start reading it, you’ll partly recognize yourself in this book which almost seems creepy. The train of thoughts and quotes of Holden Caulfield reflect the thoughts of each and every young generation.

“(…) but no one would remember it. People never remember things.”

A must-read for everyone!
