Chelsea Wolfe is a singer and a songwriter from California who lives in L.A. now, and calls her music “drone-metal-art-folk”. It’s dark, threatening, mystic and beautiful music at the same time, just like an old, unmanaged forest or a dark lake. Wolfe’s voice is not beautiful in the usual sense of the word, it enthralls by its spherical and pulsating sound with a certain aura that floats above everything.

Wolfe writes her lyrics and music herself inspired by old Scandinavian folklore songs and black metal. They are reminiscent of old stories or short fairytales. She says: ”I think deep down I wish I had one of those really gritty voices like Kurt Cobain, so maybe I’m making up for it with distorted guitars.”

Her song “Feral Love” from the album “Pain is Beauty” released in 2013 was played in the new trailer of the fourth season of “Game of Thrones”. She went on tour around Europe with Russian Circles last year. Wolfe is the first vocalist Russian Circles involved in their songs. Chelsea, who usually is a loner, set up a tour band consisting of:

Ben Chisholm (synth/bass), Kevin Dockter (guitar), Dylan Fujioka (drums), Andrea Calderon (violin), Ezra Buchla (viola), Patrick Shiroishi (baritone clarinet/saxophone).

The “Queen of the Stone Age”-tour starts on January 30 and is musically supported by Chelsea.

Wolfe wrote several albums herself and it’s worth listening to them! This music carries you off to a dark but beautiful parallel world.
