After having “survived” my numerous wounds and sicknesses, I’m going to visit one of the underground fight clubs. This time, I’ll be only a visitor! I just don’t want to get beaten up after two days of a bad cold. The fights were quite good depending on the opponents. All in all, very nice.

However, then it happened and I saw something I’ve never seen before (, which was quite weird). One of the participants fell down and got a bad cut. Due to the fact that no one really knew what to do, I shouted out loud some orders; and surprisingly, people really listened to me and reacted. Here are some tips in case that something worse happens. Even though we’re smashing each other’s faces, we still like each other.

  1. You’re no doctors! Always go to the hospital after a bad fight. Concussions are not fun and brain bleeding? We don’t want to talk about that. And they appear very often even if you don’t believe it. If you feel ashamed of saying that you’ve just fought for fun, take the standard excuse: “Hey dude, I fell down the stairs, you know”. Doctors have to help you no matter what kind of shit you’ve done.
  2. Teeth. If you lose a tooth or more (I’ve already seen this; looked quite funny, but not nice at all.), collect the broken tooth. Often, the dentist can stick it on again. If it’s visible front teeth, the health insurance will pay it for you. Just say: “I fell down the stairs…”
  3. Cuts. First rule: Cool them down. The swelling has to reduce and this way, the blood flow will be staunched. After that, apply on a tourniquet (best: abacterial or high percentage alcohol even though this is not the best solution). You can also create a tourniquet by using a t-shirt if you don’t have a first aid box. No matter how tough you are, please buy one if you join such a club. After that, go to the doctor. If you want to sew it on your own, and I tell you, that is no fun. You’ll have to check it because of probable bleedings and ruptures, anyways. So, don’t think about doing it on your own.
  4. Ruptures/sprains. First rule: Put in a splint and go to the doctor. If you don’t do this, you might get really bad consequences. Bones can coalesce awry. You might get encapsulations and splitters might stay in your body and many other things might happen. Again: cool it. Put in a splint and go to the ER.

These were some words to wound care. Again: No, I’m not an emergency surgeon or paramedic, but I learned some things during my “Freies Soziales Jahr” at the hospital. The most important rule is to go to the doctor as soon as possible even if it’s only a torn eye brow. Blood might run into your eyeball and it might spark or even worse…
