The Wiener Stüberl is well-known – celebrities and fans of the Austrian cuisine love it! Last Friday, I went there for the first time. It looked like a rustic venue, which includes a smoking area, trinklets and high wine shelves and even higher walls at the entrance. Curiosities, scurrilities or rather antiquities? You could argue about that. Our meals, however, were rather delicacies.
As a defender and fan of hefty, hearty and meaty food, I was really happy to have visited the Wiener Stüberl. We were offered delicious and substantial meals, just like we had expected from the Austrian cuisine.
It started with a salad and an asparagus soup, which is currently available. Then, I took a bite of the hearty fried beef and onions in gravy. We even ordered two of them. Before I could try out the duck with dumplings I firstly had to try out the Wiener calf cutlet with asparagus in a creamy hollandaise sauce. All my wishes had been fulfilled!
At the end, we chose the apfelstrudel with cream and vanilla sauce, followed by the Kaiserschmarrn, the typical Austrian dessert. Vegetarians are offered the Käseplatte and two other dishes, including the vegetable plate with mushroom sauce for €8.80 and the roasted dumpling with egg and green salad for €7.50.
All in all, I can say that I had a really good and “substantial” meal. The duck with its delicate meet and the sauce were really delicious; and my favorite was prime rib.
