When you look at the figures by Patricia Piccinini, one feels shocked and intrigued at the same time. She creates hybrids between humans and animals so realistically and with so much effort in the details that the audience will believe they’re real. This is what motivates Patricia Piccinini. She wants to encourage her viewers to think outside the box. How will the future look like when we have completely exploited our planets? How are our children going to live? Which consequences would arise from genetic manipulation?

One direction of interpretation is provided by Piccinini and her art. She strongly rejects the notion of her directing the way in which the audience’s thoughts are supposed to go. Piccinini shocks, her works stand out and they definitely inspire to reflect because these creatures are quite eerie and simultaneously lovable.

Besides the numerous statues, she also displays pictures. They primarily show hair, nipples and deformities. The artist, who is dealing with these themes and creating breathtaking exhibits, was born in Sierra Leone in 1965 and she has been living in Melbourne, Australia since her childhood. Permanent exhibitions are currently running in Washington, Sydney, Melbourne und Verona. If you want more information on this artist, you should visit her website.
