“Every day is a lie. But you are dying. That is not a lie. ”

Direction: John Hillcoat
Viggo Mortensen: Man
Kodi Smi
t-McPhee: Boy

The earth is dying. After a catastrophe the earth and everything that is on it is dying. The trees are falling down, the water is drying up, the animals are dying and the sky is grey. A man and his son are walking with their cart. There they put in all their belongings, making for the coast while hoping the climate is more bearable there. The only things they still own are kept in this cart. One of these things is a gun with two bullets.

On their way to the coast, they have to endure a lot of terrifying situations, for example cannibalism and murder. There’s no rest for them. The father keeps telling his son that it’s most important not to give up. The inner fire has to keep burning and stay alive.

The Road is a gloomy and melodramatic movie, which still emphasizes one of the most powerful human feelings: hope. It shows the extreme sides of human nature. You don’t need monsters; we are the monsters as soon as we’re going to die.
