While other artists retreated into their ateliers, Rembrandt Bugatti preferred a very exceptional place to work on his art: the zoo. The results are, of course, animal figures. Nevertheless, you won’t find any ordinary representations of different clichés, but a reflection of the individual characters. These can be currently seen at the Alte Nationalgalerie.

The exhibition includes over 100 creations made of bronze, drawings and other documents and offers unique peeks into the works of a fantastic artist, who was forgotten too quickly after he committed suicide at an age of 31 in Paris in 1916.

Now, the Alte Nationalgalerie shows respect to the sculptor by presenting this spectacular exhibition. Thanks to his masterful handcraft and talent, as well as his artful freedom, over 300 statues were created. The animal motifs weren’t the only versatile things, also his working techniques were the reason why he became a master of arts.

The most important feature of his works is the sense of the individuality of the animals. He created portraits with his bronze statues. And they reflect the soul of the animals. They capture them in their strong moments: honest and authentic, ravishing and beautiful.
