The Fall and Winter collection for 2014 and 2015 by Aganovich has to be a homage to the grand era of the magicians at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th, in which Houdini took people’s breath away with his magic tricks. And how could the collection be named other than “Magician” I ask you. Nana Aganovich dressed her models in dark and mysterious gowns. Known from her previous work she draped and gathered the fabric around the fragile bodies of her models. The result that was presented afterwards on the catwalk is a collection of modern interpretations of a magician’s costume, which Houdini himself always sported in his incredible shows.

The more or less color-reduced and monochrome color concept, in which black is the dominating color, impresses through the contrasts between light and dark. Black meets white and gray so to speak. You often see a canny combination of black and white in high-necked, pompous, long coats and robes. Cuts and silhouettes, which were manipulated perfectly by Nana, are the focus of her whole style.

Here’s where the true magic happens. A high-necked white blouse without button tapes caught my attention when I saw the big sleeves standing in contrast to the small waist line. A high-cut, long skirt even seems to visually reduce the waist and creates a look of a reversed tulip. The flower-like hem determines a lot of her designs, whether it is a knee-length dress or a brilliant, more masculine appearing coat.

Asymmetric cuts and accentuated contours let the collection appear especially interesting. A special dress with a floral, monochrome print in the front caught my eye. It is sleeveless and has a short trail in the back, which kind of resembles the tail coat of a magician.

Nana Aganovich is a master and maybe even a magician if it comes to designs and cuts and you are able to see it first hand on the Rio Fashion Week .
