The best presents to gift someone are the ones you’d gift yourself, right? That’s exactly what I feel when looking at Sandra Weil’s current collection for summer 2014. She designs garments she would love to wear herself. The floor-length skirt and the dress especially got me. Let’s see what she’s going to show us at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week México for fall and winter 2014/15.

Her strong bond to her family and especially the strong female personalities had a distinct influence on her designs. She grew up between Lima and Peru and first got in contact with designing when she was sewing her grandmother’s fine skirts and dresses. Could this be the reason why the floor-length skirt is part of her collection? Long and cloaking skirts and dresses were supposed to hide a conservative wearer’s femininity and to protect the honorable women from obscene looks.

Today I consider long skirts like that very comfortable, because they stretch the wearer’s silhouette while also hiding unshapely legs. This way, every woman can get to wear a skirt and to show her feminine side, without having to squeeze yourself into a pair of tight jeans. Sandra Weil’s outfits can even have a tough result, for example with the look consisting of a leather jacket and a black bustier dress. Another combination that reminds you of the casual and alternative bohemian style are the flat ankle-strap sandals worn with a top of your own choice.

Why not get inspired by the old traditions and start wearing a hat? A fedora for example!
