Sunn O))) (pronounced: s?n) is a US-American band, originally consisting of Stephen O’Malley and Greg Anderson. The band was founded in 1998 and was a side project of both musicians. To be precise Sunn O))) is a band created to honor the band ”Earth”, which was the pioneer band of the genre Drone-Doom which Sunn O)))) too has devoted itself to.
The band currently consists of: Stephen O’Malley, Greg Anderson and Attila Csihar
All band members play the guitar but with a whole tone set below. The sound arising from that sounds very deep and low-pitched. A typical feature of Sun O))) are the missing vocals. Mayhem singer Attila Csihar makes his vocal appearance in only two albums (White 2 und Monoliths & Dimension). Their tracks are very long with a low pulse and the rhythm sounds off tune. Furthermore the music sounds very atmospheric. One can almost say that it’s more about sounds related to each other than about music in general.
Their name was originally an evocation to ”Earth”. The font is related to their logo and waves appear from the word Sunn.
Sunn O))) has cooperated with many bands like Ulver, Boros, Merzbow and more. You can get your hand on their albums only by attending their live concerts. Their previous released albums are:
