Walker Evans is one of the greatest photographers of the last century. Original prints of his works from between 1928 and 1974 are currently on display in the Berliner Gropius Bau – the main attraction of this exhibition is the wonderful black and white portraits, but landscape images are amongst the other treasures waiting to be discovered. His pictures mostly depict the America of a former era, and they range from snapshots of the Great Depression to images of wartime and post-war happenings.
His life’s work can indeed be said to be a tremendously artful summary of history.
