Sooner or later, every urban explorer will chance upon a hidden house; one that has been untouched by human hands for a very long time. This one very special place will then be his or her little secret.
I’ve found my little secret and I won’t be telling you where it is. But I can tell you why people have places like this – because everyone wants to have a place that nobody knows of, where they can feel at home and have time for themselves.
One of my acquaintances once found an empty school building. At first it seemed not to even have an entrance anymore, but then he found a way in and fell in love with the place, so much that he almost started to live there. He only told me about it when it was due to be demolished. And so, we went there together for the last time. I really understood why he was so fond of it, for it was mesmerizing in its very own little way. Old chalkboards, tables and chairs still stood in the rooms, as if the students and teachers had all popped outside for a little break, and had somehow forgotten to come back.
Hopefully, my own secret place will stay the way it is for a long time. And if someone else discovers it, hopefully they will treat it with the respect it deserves, because this place truly has something magical about it. Any derelict and run-down building could be hiding some beautiful treasures within itself – always keep your eyes open!
