record store day 1

In the digital age, record stores belong to an endangered species. Music can be downloaded in a second nowadays. No one really rummages in little record stores where you can get inspired or get advice from experts, where you meet other fans of music or find out about new bands. This beautiful part of the musical cultural is pushed into the background, but there’s one day which only focuses on these little and also big stores in the whole world, on the beautiful nostalgia which records exude and the music community.

This day is a special musical event: the Record Store Day. On the third Saturday of April (this year on April 19, 2014) record stores from all over the world open their doors and present records which are only sold on this special day. This event is held once every year! Special editions, collector’s items and B-side compilations are produced and sold only during this event. Beside special editions of records there’s much more though. Numerous bands host meet and greets and give unique instore gigs in those numerous record stores.

And if you still haven’t enough of music in the evenings, you can go partying in the clubs! By this time, over 3000 record stores have joined this event and it is still growing! There are 17 different registered stores in Berlin, among others the 33rpm Store in the Wrangelstraße 95.

Highlights are the new releases of Springsteen, the Rolling Stones, Dinosaur Jr. and many others, and gigs of “Spartan Allstars”, “Rainbirds”, “Supershirt” and other artists. More information and a list of the participating stores and artists can be found on Record Store Day Germany
