Designer Anna Sui , who has Chinese origins, is a true artist and captured my heart a long time ago. She is fuelled by her obsession to work with the different cultures and sub-cultures on this planet and thus able to create fashion, which is characterized by Vintage, folklore and the bohemian world. And that, my friends, is totally up my alley. Oh how I would love to get a ticket to Rio de Janeiro just to get a glimpse of her expertise on the Rio Fashion Week in April.
Well, you are allowed to dream, right? You downright have to! “You have to focus on your dreams, even if they are beyond sanity.” Anna Sui has the courage to transform her visions of fashion into reality and that is precisely why I look up to her. When I look at her latest collection for Fall and Winter 2014 I have to admit that you have to have a decent amount of courage to present those designs properly.
Hippie and folklore elements meet the vintage style of the 20th century and melt into a sea of autumnal, dark colors with hints of romantic prints, which decorate beautiful gowns, both short and floor-length. An incredibly amount of details build up in front of your eyes and I truly don’t know where to look first.
Models with your typical 20th century bob bring back the brightly colored tweed costumes from the times of Coco Chanel. Fur boas and elegant fur coats transform the model into eccentric divas, who are clothed in robes with floral prints accordingly to the style of the Art Déco. But stripes, paisley prints, Chinese dragon applications, sequins and colorful, symmetric and geometric patterns are not ignored in this collection filed with extravaganza. Sometimes they even are combined in one single outfit.
Maxi dresses, Caftans made out of flowing fabrics and breezy, printed cloth pants complete the collection, which seems to have one single message: “Bring back la vie bohème!”. Even the less masculine models, which were sent out on the runway are dressed in romantic, flamboyant gowns.
Anna Sui’s sense of fashion is truly motivating us to keep on dreaming.
