Serpent & the Swan– two animals which, in our opinion, show the contrast between ugly and beautiful, rough and delicate, good and bad. The two sisters Hayley Smith and Lauri, who have been always fascinated by the kingdom of animals, have been creating fashion since 2013. This fashion is marked by an incredible charisma. It’s obvious that influential fashion magazines (Vogue, ELLE) have already been featuring these rising stars. The designer duo will present its fall/winter collection 2014/15 at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Australia.
However, I first want to show you their probably most beautiful collection, which was made for spring/summer 2014. I can see the essence which breathes life into Serpent & Swan’s fashion. It’s an incredibly exciting contrast which defines the designs. It might be influenced by our myths, stories and fairy tales: a fight between good and bad.
A harness made of black leather decorates the neck and breast of the delicate brunet beauty and is also attached on the torso of the male model. A bustier, high-waisted shorts and a jacket made of black, smooth leather add a threatening aura to the style, which might be equivalent to a snake’s aura. The gloomy atmosphere is interrupted by the swan which is reflected by delicate, nude fabrics which are embellished with flowers. Dresses, tops and blouses virtuosically imitate the gentleness and beauty of a swan. Despite the mystic influences, this fashion is still urban, modern and wearable.
If we now compare the spring collection 2014 with the upcoming collection, we can see that the mystic influences are now taking a back seat. Functionality which is needed for this season enters the limelight. Purist, single-colored sweaters, jackets and coats are now shown in muted, dark, wintery colors. Nevertheless, we can tell by the fur elements or even fur tops that the mysterious kingdom of animals has remained the source of inspiration. Long-sleeved tops for women and men, which are completely made of transparent, black fabrics show the young fashion house’s sensual side.
Serpent & the Swan were only born in 2013 and have already achieved to capture our hearts with their utterly modern, partly dreamy, romantic and complex designs.
