My Cologne Cathedral – the dream of Christo and Jeanne-Claude beyond reach

The artist couple Christo and Jeanne-Claude also made the covered Berlin Reichstag of 1995 immortal. Fantastic projects such as Surrounded Islands 1983 off the coast of Florida, the covered gate Pont Neuf 1984 in Paris, the umbrellas at the same time in Japan and USA 1990 or the wonderful gates incenral Park in New York 2005 – all these has attracted worldwide attention and established their legendary reputation.

Now, artnet Auctions presents outstanding works of Christo and Jeanne-Claude in an online auction until February the 6th and recalls memories of a 50 years old unprecedented creative period. Posters, lithography, pictures and true rarities can be seen at this auction. One of these works is the Wrapped Painting from 1969: a lithography, printed at the front and back and covered in black plastic foil. This work was published when Christo covered the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago. The valuation price is around 1.500 to 2.000 US-Dollar.

For friends and collectors in Germany, the work “Mein Kölner Dom” may get great interest. The project for Cologne is a part of Christo’s and Jeanne-Claude’s dream beyond reach. This colored lithography, format 55,9 cm x 71,1 cm from 1992 shows the covered Cologne Cathedral – a dream of artists, which never got approved. This auction includes a copy aside from the edition of 110 with a valuation price of 10.000 to 12.000 US-Dollar. The auction Christo is going to take place at artnet Auction from January 28th to February 6th.
