vegan backen 1

Christmas, the time of sweet sins, was especially for new vegans a hard challenge. Every grocery store or Christmas market lures with sweet chocolate- or bisquit seductions but each of them contains animal products. Last year when I was still a vegan noob, the only candy I would eat was dark chocolate…the whole Christmas time. However if I would have done some research on popular recipe web sides like www.chefkoch.de or even www.google.com I would have noticed that there’s long lists of delicious vegan cookie recipes. Classics like Vanillekipferl (German vanilla cookies), gingerbread or even new creations like banana-cinnamon cookies are listed there. So there is no way for monotony in your mouth.

Whoever still wants to stick with grandma’s non-vegan cookies could try to just “veganize” her recipes. Therefore, you just replace butter with magarine,  milk with soy milk, milk chocolate with dark chocolate and so on.

A little tip about recipes that contain eggs: You can replace small amounts of eggs with baking soda, but for bigger amounts you should use “Ei-Ersatz” (Egg-Replace) or soy flour (both available in “Reformhaus” stores or in other stores that sell biological food) otherwise the dough will either get as hard as a rock or just stay all liquid (unfortunately I know what I’m talking about).

So this Christmas time big fucking army rations of cookies have been baked and been sent to all my friends and family. My personal favorite would be cinnamon rolls though: They’re easy to make and enjoyable through all seasons.
