After a more than just delightful Sunday Brunch in „Lins Mandarin Restaurant“ the sudden craving for something sugary, colorful and pretty which we can easily indulge in on a dreamy day in fall struck us. In the end, our path led us to the Mommsenstraße. We walked further and there it was:  The little, cute ice café “Chococafé” seemed to look at us with sweet pleading eyes and magnetically dragging us to its entry. So we decided to enter the Bleibtreustr. In order to check if this ice café really is a place where you can enjoy “the best ice cream in Berlin” according to an insider’s tip. No sooner said than done!

I ordered a scoop of orange ice, which I chose because I craved something more exotic. Apart from the very usual flavors, the assortment consisting of 18 types in total also included creations such as walnut fig and “Kinderschokolade”. In addition to my orange ice cream I ordered a cup of hot chocolate, which was made of real cooking chocolate… if you are fan of instant cocoa powder shit, stay away from Chococafé. Apart from a mango lassi, there are also the flavors chili, caramel and ginger. I took the latter. It was fantastic. A slightly exotic seasoning, no severe spiciness attacks my throat and it gets better: It harmonized exorbitantly perfectly with my orange ice cream. Orange and ginger go well with each other anyway. Following, I drank a strawberry milkshake, which tasted wonderfully fresh, cooling and juicily sweet without leaving out the smallest grains which I like to chew on when I’m consuming strawberry products.

The sweet, little café is marked in the first place by its size. Well, it is small, very small and therefore the atmosphere is cozy. The old-building ambient and the interior design capture you and literally tie you to one of the chairs, that you don’t want to ever rise up from said chair.

Besides self-made cake, ice and different cold and warm refreshing drinks and whine, the Chococafé often organizes readings. On September 27th in 2013 the next reading will takes place. Then, the authoress Rita Klug is going to read aloud two thriller novels from the series “Schundhefte”. The admission costs €10, starting at 19.00.
