Big Fish is an entertaining but very sad tragic comedy about Edward lying on his deathbed and his adult son listening to his last words. Edward begins to tell all his stories about the events having led to the first encounter with the mother. However, his son doesn’t believe them.
According to the story, young Edward meets a witch predicting his date of death. He feels strengthened and secured by this knowledge, so he decides to experience life without fear, overwhelmed by a thirst of adventure, because his biggest fear, death, has already been eradicated.
Big Fish pictures a mischievously told fairytale to me, showing breathtaking pictures and causing a warm feeling in our hearts, even though it ends in a bittersweet way. I would definitely recommend this film. It proves that it’s not a happy end that matters, but the visual and emotional trips we take.
