The Big Foot or Sasquatch is a creature originating from the North American mythology and folklore. It is said to look like a big, hairy ape with extremely big feet. This is why it was given the name Big Foot.

Today, most experts say that the Big Foot is in fact a bear walking on two legs. For this reason, hikers confuse it with an anthropoid ape. However, there are many people that believe in the existence of this mythical creature, referring to several incidents and proofs that support the theory of big foot. Around 1550 for instance, an animal was killed by hunters whose description overlaps with the general depiction of the big foot. There are even scientists that back the theory of big foot being a kind of unknown ape species.

Well, no matter whether big foot is real or not – you cannot deny the fact that a real cult or even craze emerge,  revolving around this monkey-like creature.

White settlers heard of this creature in the 1850s, when Indians told them stories of a strange forest creature with giant feet and ape-like appearance. In the 1950s and 1960s, the number of alleged encounters and sights of big foot nearly went over the roof. Foot prints of the sasquatch appeared throughout the whole country. In 1967, Roger Patterson and Robert Gimli even published a movie that allegedly proved the existence of the ape. Critics however referred to the filmed big foot as a man in a gorilla costume. It was a controversial topic indeed

In the year 2002, Michael Wallace finally admitted that his father cut big foot feet out of wood and faked footprints with the wooden fake limbs. In fact, the majority of the finds that are supposed to back the existence of big foot are immediately proven invalid, wrong or faked.

To this day, big foot fans still firmly cling to the belief that somewhere in the woods of North America, a hairy ape-like creature exists.
