Hello fellow beauty lovers.

What we see in this picture is a beautiful woman that wears mismatching undies because let’s be real, ain’t nobody got time to find this one bra to match the panties. She smiles casually into the camera, whilst sporting an oversized shirt that looks like it belonged to her husband, who might be in the shower this very moment. But something’s off. Is it the dark circles under her eyes that, let’s be frank here, no normal girl can get rid of with only the use of concealer? Or is it the belly that looks like the woman enjoys chocolate every now and then, just like we do? Well, one thing is for sure: She is a natural beauty.

One glance into the upper left corner and we see what it’s all about. The girl in the picture was not retouched with Photoshop, at all. Because “The real YOU is sexy.”

This picture is just one amongst a lot of images from the latest campaign by the brand Aerie. The sister brand of American Eagle markets bras, panties and sleepwear for girls of the ages of 15-21. Yes, those girls, who are most affected by the media nowadays. These are the girls that look at magazines just to see it overflowing with models sporting the size XXXS.

Aerie’s campaign features real women. Of course, they do have makeup on, were captured in flattering poses and lights to hide an extra pound or two but Photoshop was banished from the project all together. The best thing? Even the Aerie website had a little reconstruction going. Because whenever young girls go on there to look for the right bra or new undies they won’t have to check the underwear worn by a model with the “ideal” breast size 36C. They get to see their chosen pieces on girls with their boob size. Isn’t that great?

These steps may not seem revolutionary. But those are things that could really change the perception of beauty nowadays if more and more people would pursue this trend as well. Here’s to hope that many brands and magazines will follow suit.

Yours truly,
Lana Hoang
