If you head off to chase adventures in the wilderness there is nothing which is more important than the right clothing. Yes, it’s the ideal garments which can often decide over life and death. Today, I assembled some crucial rules for you in order to help you survive in the wilderness.

1. Don several layers of clothing. The onion principle should be something everyone of you should know actually. But I’m just going to say it again: There is nothing which is more helpful than wearing different and multiple layers of garments. The undermost layer should consist of functional underwear. Forget sexiness. You are a real guy if you climb mountains and fight with lions. Real men don’t need sexy underwear. Women neither!

2. The second layer should be composed of clothing made of microfiber fabrics because this kind of fabric feels nice on the skin and doesn’t chafe. Trust me, nothing is worse than a sore butt.

3. After that, you should wear warm fleece clothing which keeps the warmth inside and the cold outside.

4. After having put on your fleece clothing, I really recommend donning a windbreaker or a down jacket for even colder environments. Following the onion principle, you can take off single layers if it gets too warm without having to freeze to death. In addition, this clothing is practically wind and waterproof. But yeah, 100% waterproof clothing only exist in utopian advertisements.

5. In addition, a pair of good hiking boots should be worn which encase the ankles and feature a tight lacing system. Don’t wear completely new boots for your next adventure. Break in your new pair of shoes before heading off. Otherwise your feet will be covered by blisters. Here, waterproof boots are the alpha and omega as well. If you don’t like synthetics, you can wear several layers of canvas, sailcloth and leather, which however feels way heavier. Wool? No! If wool gets wet, it takes too long to dry.
