The central graveyard of St. Louis ist he oldest graveyard of the city. Well, in general, this jewel is one of the oldest maintained cemeteries in North America. Due to its location, many different architectural styles seem to clash with each other here. Middle European, colonial, Central American or Spanish influences are visible. But this isn’t the reason why I recommend visiting this curious place.

This cemetery is in fact considered one of the most haunted places in the entire USA. Countless ghosts are supposed to roam the graveyard, finally waiting for salvation and release. But a mere lost soul is definitely nothing compared to the following creature: The so-called voodoo queen’s mausoleum is located here and doesn’t seem to be interested in going to heaven… I mean, hell.

Marie Laveau is the name of this lady who lived in New Orleans in the 18th and 19th century. She was known as a voodoo priest, which earned her a lot of power, fame and respect. Her corpse however disappeared. Today, it’s still not sure whether her body is resting in the family mausoleum of the Laveau family or…not. People say that if you draw a big X on the mausoleum, she will grant you a wish … and you can chat with her casually. Well, who wants to go with me and pay this lovely lady a visit?

Today, her tomb is regarded as a holy place for followers of the voodoo cult. Dark rituals are carried out here. Well, no wonder the other deceased ones can’t rest in peace properly.
