Rombaut launched its first collection in 2013 (fall/winter season). The designer Mats Rombaut doesn’t only stand out because of his unique design, but also because of his individual choice of materials.
Before having decided to start his own business, je worked as a designer of men’s accessories for fashion houses including Lanvin and Damir Doma. With his own label he doesn’t only want to spread his own signature, but he also wants to demonstrate his philosophy of working with environment-friendly materials, creating a fair option to traditional shoes.
All of his creations consist of fig bark, which was collected in Uganda and processed in Tuscany. After that, they are covered with gum in order to make the shoes waterproof.
Rombaut’s design is quite minimalistic. It’s quite hard to distinguish and make out the white shoe of the spring/summer collection 2014 in front of the light background. The product palette includes typical Italian footwear, open shoes, sneakers or even real boots.
Rombaut’s designs aren’t only trendy, but they also offer a conscious alternative to the traditional shoes.
