Nico Delort is a Paris-born, freelance illustrator, who amazed me with his masterful works that are only drawn with black fineliners or dip pens in different sizes. Everything is so filigree and detailed. It’s hard to find someone else who can achieve this richness of details.

His illustrations remind us of copper engravings and woodcuts or etchings like those that have been used around 100 years ago by masters of illustration (e.g. Gustave Doré).

Another feature is his choice of motifs, which works harmoniously with his style. Nico Delort often takes fantastic motifs as a base and forms them into mystic warriors of the past and impressive temple complexes of lost civilizations in a way which would never be forgotten. He has already decorated several fantasy novels with his feather. Everything can only become a perfect book when its illustrations has captured the soul of it.

I’d love to tell you more about him, but mister Delort knows how to lay low. It’s his works that have to be in the center.
