If your family consists of artists you’ll become one too, and there’s nothing you can do about it. That’s a rule which also determined the life of Hedi Xandt, who was born in Norway and lives in Hamburg now. His family is composed of illustrators, authors, graphic designers, creative craftsmen and sculptors. It’s no wonder Hedi Xandt became a great artist.

But he doesn’t want to be categorized. He loves being a graphic designer as much as being a sculptor. It’s the wide spectrum of arts that makes him that interesting. Still, I am mostly fascinated by two of his sculptures reminding me of modernized antique artwork.

A golden Apollo radiates his energy through golden rays with a proud but yet a little bit suffering look. Another bust reminiscent of ancient Greece presents a dame with a golden bone uprising out of her marbled face. This bone disfigures and embellishes her at the same time and shows certain discrepancy. It stands for the beauty in tremendousness, the beauty of imperfection. Hedi Xandt is a true artist!
