Time and again on Sunday outings you meet at Pho 56 at Olivaer Platz, to enjoy traditional Vietnamese Kitchen. Soups as the aperitif, salads, main courses, desserts and lassis always there part of that.

On our first visit we ordered duck, all kinds of soups, Banh Choui (damped bananas with sticky rice and a creamy coconut sauce, a warped tasty lotus stalk salad with chicken, red onions, pepper, carrots, cilantro and peanuts)

This Sunday we enjoyed a prawn soup with coconut milk, mango salad with chicken, cilantro, mint, red onions, cucumber and peanuts. This might sound like it’s going to take getting used to it, because of all the different ingredients. You’ll find such a combination rarely in other kitchens. And that is why I picked the salad! With the mango salad, I also took a mango lassi.

For the main dish we had duck, just like the last time and a veeery extensively filled bowl of fine Chinese noodle with chicken, morels, cilantro again, fresh, graced veggies and Vietnamese herbs, which made the soup perfectly aromatic. But my most favorite soup next to the ones tuned with coconut milk, is the Súp Hoành Thánh, a soup with fresh prawns and pork in dumplings. Hot, aromatic, crisp, awesome!

The service is decent and really friendly and always keeps an eye on the empty tables of the guests, so that you have to wait for only a few minutes until your next meal comes. You can generally say that “waiting” is a word unbeknownst to the Pho 56.

For the aperitif soup, the soup as the main dish, chicken, lassi, apple spritzer and mango salad we paid a total of 30.10€. You won’t find a better bang-for-buck around this location. And the best thing is that the duck is served in a black iron skillet and the duck still sizzles and frizzles. The duck is juicy, crispy and lean while maintaining its exorbitantly harmonic relation to the various vegetables.
