While western nations have been turning to high-tech products when it comes to skin care, Japan has turned to nature, in the form of a simple root. The “Konjac Sponge” is supposed to deeply clean pores, peel, stimulate new cell development, and all the while moisturizes the skin.
The Konjac Sponge is made from the bulb of the Asian plant “Amorphophallus Konjac”, also known as “Devil’s Tongue” or “Voodoo Lily”. The sponge contains many vital ingredients for healthy skin including proteins, carbohydrates, and vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, B12, C, D, and E. The sponge is as hard as a pumice stone. When the sponge comes in contact with water, the hard bulb becomes soft and spongey, and begins working into the skin.
It also works well with sensitive skin, is free from coloring agents and preservatives, vegan, and biodegradable. At the moment there is a wide variety of Konjac sponges, specially designed for specified needs of differing skin types: a white one for all skin types, a stone-grey one to fight against blackheads (also intended for men), and the red sponge is supposed to help against wrinkles and stimulate capillaries in the skin. There is also a pink variant available, which is infused with red and white clay and is intended to spruce up “tired, damaged and strained skin.”
Konjac is known for its healing qualities and has been used by the Japanese for over 1,500 years. As for its medical uses, it has been implemented in Japanese medicine since the 6th century. The unique structure of the Konjac sponge smoothly massages the skin and stimulates blood circulation and the regeneration of skin cells- for clean and invigorated skin… all of this done naturally!
