Why not try something special, something from the oriental culture- henna.
I guess some of you already know this magical paint. Many people use it to dye their hair but henna comes with a tradition which is much bigger than that. Form Africa to India and the near east, all oriental regions share the tradition of body painting with henna. It’s used to be a muslim wedding ritual for the bride to get her hands and writs ornamented with henna. As you can see, there’s a huge meaning behind the red-brown color. Please take the time and inform yourself about theses traditions before using henna for yourself. What may be only a style to us is an important and meaningful piece of culture for these ethical groups so doing a little research is necessary for a respectful behavior.
Once you’re done getting informed you can start trying it out on your own. Of course you will need henna paste which you have to mix yourself. But don’t worry, it’s really easy. You get the henna powder in turkish shops or the internet. Good thing is that henna is a plant based product that is harmless to our skin but make sure to try a tiny bit on your skin to see if you’re allergic to it. Just in case. Now I’ll share a simply recipe with you that you can try easily at home:
First you mix 1/4 cup (20g) of fresh and filtered henna powder with 1/4 cup (60ml) of freshly pressed and filtered lemon juice. Add 1-1/2 teaspoons of sugar and 1-1/2 teaspoons of lavender oil (you can use any essential oil) and mix well till it has the consistence of wall paint. Cover your henna paste and let it rest for 24 hours by room temperature. After waiting you’ll see the henna disposed. Take only these parts and mix them with a squeeze of lemon juice till it’s smooth. Now the fun can begin! Use a piping bag to draw on your skin. If you’re not sure how to draw or what to draw, you can use a pattern.
Your henna will take 6-8 hours to dry, you can also use a treacle to make it last longer. However, your little piece of art will last a couple of weeks.
