John Rocha was and is one of the most important fashion designers of Ireland. In 1993, the fashion designer was even awarded Designer of the Year as part of the prestigious British Fashion Awards. It’s almost natural that so much talent and passion for fashion is plugged into the blood, in the DNA, to put it boldly. In recent years, the world has become an observer of a meteoric rise in the fashion scene, which is closely associated with the name Rocha. Simone Rocha, daughter of John Rocha, has made it! She prevailed, disappeared from the shadows the big mighty reputation of her father casted on her, and stepped into the light, into the spotlight. In many ways, the talented designer even enjoys considerably more fame than her influential father.

Our editors fell promptly in love with Simone’s fabulous spring collection for 2016 which plays with contrasts in a daring and fearless manner. Sugar-sweet girlish candy dresses made of pink chiffon transform the delicate graces at London Fashion Week into dolls. However, it also becomes immediately clear that the extravagant world of Simone Rocha is definitely anything but a cotton candy stand. Black macramé ropes  hug the torso of the delicate dolls in a cross-design and remind of the perversely fine art of Japanese bondage artists who tie up the female body with ropes in an erotic way while immobilizing it and giving it a completely new form of perverse, yet pleasurable aesthetics.

Incredible tension is reflected by the gowns, where pure innocence meets bondage. Being inspired by controversial photographer Nobuyoshi Araki, whose works hang on the fine line between art and porn, Simone Rocha depicts the transformation of innocence and childishness into something sexual and perverted in her creations in an aesthetic way. Yet, she created a collection full of elegance, grace and timelessness.
