Tigers in large numbers used to roam the wilderness, but the human being represents a major threat to the predator. Illegal hunting and the illegal trade in the skins are the greatest threat to the big cat. The endangerment of the tiger has led to them being threatened with extinction. Today there are only a few wild tigers, and the number continues to fall.

While India is home to the Bengal tiger, Russia is home to the Amur tiger. Both species are threatened with extinction, hunted by humans. The shrinking habitat and hunt ensure that the number of living tigers decrease almost every year. Overall, only a few thousand Amur tigers and even less Bengal tigers live in the wild.

A total of six tiger species are threatened with extinction, while three others are already extinct. Hunting is a thrill for many people and the tiger skin is the deserved trophy. Despite prohibitions, tigers are still killed for the production of medicine. Especially in Asia, people still believe in the healing power of medicine with ingredients from the tiger, a deadly and forbidden tradition.

Despite prohibitions, poachers don’t hold back when hunting the tiger. This is due to the high prices that paid to them for every catch.
