Australia, 1939. The British noblewoman Sarah Ashley travels to Australia in order to be reunited with her husband. On her way to him, she meets the Australian cowboy who everyone calls Drover. Upon their encounter, a turbulent journey through the outback begins. When they reach their destination, a farm, she finds her husband dead.

This shocking revelation leads to a great adventure during which the protagonists travel throughout Down Under. When the Second World War starts, Australia furthermore becomes a target of bombings conducted by the Japanese military.  Waiting for the Americans to send help, Sarah and Drover endure pain and exhaustion. Amidst the terror, they however also find hope and love.

The movie Australia deals with the hardship of love between two completely different individuals. It depicts racism against Aborigines and puts the tragic life of the so-called Lost Generation in the focus.
