Matte lips have been the “non plus ultra” over the whole past year. However, we are this close to celebrating the beginning of 2016 and I am happy to say that it seems like Metallic is the new matte. Metallic lips have been popping up all over the fashion world and what is a better opportunity to show off your sense of style than New Year’s Eve?

Brands like NYX, Ciaté London and Lancôme have been amongst the first to jump onto the metallic bandwagon and have released gorgeous examples in a variety of colors to contribute to this emerging trend.

One question however remains: How do I wear a metallic lip without looking like I tried too hard?

Well, it’s easy and yet a little tricky to pull off. It is all about the right mixture. The focus for this look is clearly on your lips. Definitely make use of a matching lip liner to make sure that everything is in place. Opt for either a matte or a dewy complexion but do not use glitter, shine or metallic shades on your eyes or cheek. If you must, use a slight shimmery but neutral tone on your eyes. The right dosage is key here. Contouring however can be beneficial as it will sharpen up your face and draw more attention to the real stars of the show: Your lips.
