He came from the region around Venice. However his exact name as well as his origin is still unknown to this day. Here’s the plot twist: The name stems from his painting style that is defined by a richness of details, which is very unusual for his time. Since the poorer population wore a lot of indigo blue, the people in his paintings happen to look as if they are wearing clothing made of indigo blue denim.
