The beauty market extremely changed over the past 20 years. So did the beauty trends. Some makeup trends typical of the 90ies however are now experiencing a real comeback, which reminds me of a very important principle: Oldie is not always goldie. In 2015, we make use of a variety of new techniques that are designed to achieve a natural-looking result. This shows us that we have learned from our mistakes. Here are the most extreme examples straight out of the 90ies and 2000s, which we nowadays luckily don’t see as often anymore:

No. 1: The Sperm Eyebrow

What once was considered super sexy and beautiful is now perceived as rather less pretty. The so-called ‘sperm brows’ are done with a strong arch shape that is strangely characterized by a rounded front part. The ideal seemed to be: The less hair, the better! Today, we gave up this trend and realized that natural and full looking eyebrows are the right way to go.

No. 2: The Disco Ball Highlight

In the 90ies and 2000s, the trends were especially affected by the pop music scene, which is why glitter in the entire face quickly became the ideal look. Be it a flaky shimmering highlight, frosty eye shadow or lip gloss that couldn’t be glossier, the celebrities all wore glitter and shiny makeup. Today, strong highlights are a huge trend again, but fortunately the natural version is preferred nowadays that mostly concentrates on the cheekbones.

No. 3: The more contrast, the better!

One of the many trends of the 2000s was to line your lips with a lip liner that is at least ten shades darker than your actual lipstick. That trend almost completely died (Thank god!). Today we deal with this look using a pretty ombre effect which makes the lip liner blend smoothly into the lip color.
