Italian fashion house Etro has a history stretching back to almost 50 years ago. This high-class company was born in Milan in the year 1968, and Milan is where it remains today. Let’s look back on the exciting and thrilling history of this family business.

Everything began when Gimmo Etro, a globetrotter with an education in Economics, decided to found a textile company. He opted for the distinction between two segments: prêt-à-porter and haute couture. Even today, more than half of all Etro’s textiles are manufactured in-house. Soon, an individual look arose, with patterns and colour compositions playing an overarching role. Over the years, paisley patterns became a steadfast trademark – they gained Etro his first wave in popularity in 1984, as handbags and suitcases in Etro-Paisley Jacquard rose to become must-have statement pieces.

Following this success, Etro launched a home collection that remains successful and coveted up to this date. The assortment of fashion underwent gradual expansion, and now appears complete with a perfume line. Since the 90s, Etro has stood for a lifestyle built around fashion, perfumes and home. In the year of 1996, they had their first catwalk show, and another milestone was reached.

Be it Japan, the USA or France – Etro has conquered the world and is now one of the most important labels of the fashion world. Their incomparable ethno-design makes it easy to love Etro, and increases their recognition value immeasurably.
